The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Uzbekistan Michel Tailhades said that the country in April and May will be held next immunization days against polio, the correspondent BakuToday. “According to WHO recommendations, in April – May 2011 scheduled for consecutive days of immunization against the disease, purchased several million doses of trivalent polio vaccine”, – said Tailhades.
He recalled that in 2010 some countries in Central Asia, there were cases of polio. “Given the situation, the Government of Uzbekistan with the support of international organizations, especially WHO, has taken prompt measures to neutralize the threat. According to official statistics, since 1996 in Uzbekistan has not been a single case of polio since 2001 – and diphtheria.

June 28 Tajikistan reported 334 laboratory-confirmed cases of infection with wild poliovirus type 1, including 15 deaths (4.49%). In response to the outbreak, Tajikistan held a series of four vaccinations, two for children under 6 years and two for children and adolescents younger than 15 years.
