Novosibirsk Mayor’s Office March 26 to take part in an international global stock WWF ‘Earth Hour’. As the correspondent of March 24 BakuToday in the press center of the Municipality of Novosibirsk, from 20:30 to 21:30 (17:30 – 18:30 GMT) Architectural decorative lighting and emergency lighting city administration will be disabled.
Participants in the action – economic and commercial institutions – the last Saturday in March turned off lights and electrical appliances for one hour. The main purpose – to draw public attention to climate change and increasing energy efficiency.
The first “Earth Hour” was organized in 2007 in Sydney (Australia). Since then, the initiative of the World Wildlife Fund annually supports thousands of organizations and millions of ordinary citizens from dozens of countries around the world. In itself, off-hour of light can not significantly improve the environmental situation, however, according to organizers, the event should bring the inhabitants of our planet to understand that the energy savings, ultimately, will reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
In 2009, Russia has officially joined the campaign. This year the preparations for the “Earth Hour” goes to Moscow, Vladivostok, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Kyzyl, the Abakan and other cities.
Municipality of Novosibirsk city offers organizations that have run in his building an administrative and cultural facilities, to support useful initiative. March 26 is recommended to disable only the architectural and decorative lighting, and the duty of buildings and other facilities that are not related to security and livelihoods of citizens.
