The company RSC as part of its participation in the leading international conference and exhibition on the supercomputer topics ISC’11, passing 20-23 June in Hamburg presented a unique energy-efficient solution for high performance computing (HPC) with liquid cooling of electronic components. This second generation of energy-efficient supercomputer infrastructure solutions and the RAC for a segment of LDCs, which implements an advanced liquid cooling for existing server boards based on processors Intel, originally designed for traditional air-blow for electronic components.
The new solution supports the company RSK commonly available server boards based on processors Intel ™ Xeon ™ 5600 series from several manufacturers. In addition, to be released in a series of solution with support for server processors Intel’s next generation (codenamed Sandy Bridge) and the accelerator, plug-in standard PCI Express.
“For the convenience of using our technology, announces the commercial availability of the RAC finished product consisting of a cluster computing unit with a capacity of 15 TFLOPS, built on Intel processors using networks Infibniband and Gigabit Ethernet, and integrated with systems of power and cooling, storage and optimized software providing for the LDCs. Such an integrated cluster solution is ready for delivery to end customers. This performance will be increased to 30 TFLOPS with the appearance of server processors Intel’s next generation, and there is a possibility of further expansion of the system with the help of accelerators based on the same infrastructure, “- said Aleksei Shmelev, Executive director of the RAC.
“RAC is ready to implement these energy-efficient solutions for existing server board any ODM / OEM provider, originally developed by their boards for conventional air cooling. RSK solution has been implemented for server boards of several ODM-producers” – said Yegor Druzhinin, technical director of the RAC.
“In 2010, Intel has named the company RAC winner in” Best in Russia and the CIS server solution for processor-based Intel ™ Xeon ™ “for the creation of innovative energy-efficient platform for high performance computing. We are very pleased that the DNC continues to go on the path of innovation and the creation of leading-edge family of processors based on Intel Xeon, representing the 2nd generation of energy-efficient solutions for the HPC segment, and cloud computing, “- said Kirk Skaugen, Vice president and general manager, Data Center Group of Intel.
On the stand RAC presented the basic building block of a new solution based on the 6-core processors Intel ™ Xeon ™ X5680 with 3.33 GHz with liquid cooling of electronic components card calculator. This unit is a key element in the implementation of the concept of creating a flexible infrastructure of energy-efficient data center. These building blocks of the new generation are already being applied in the largest project of RSK in the South Ural State University, where he installed supercomputer complex with a capacity of 117 TFLOPS, and will also be used in other projects carried out by it now.
