The Government of Georgia introduced taxes for businesses operating in the tourism sector. In particular, according to the introduced in the Tax Code of Georgia amendment, with the new tourist season, the owners of private family hotels to the holiday season will have to pay tax according to the rentable area of the rate of 10 lari per 1 sq.m.
On the current system of taxation, employed in the tourism entrepreneurs pay taxes, depending on the number of visitors.
Draft amendments to the tax code at the parliament session on Tuesday protested the parliamentary opposition. Chairman of the faction “Christian Democrats” George Akhvlediani said that working in the field of tourism businesses are already in deep trouble, and new taxes will aggravate it. Especially because many owners of private hotels have to start a business at the time loans from banks at high interest rates and still pay these loans.
With fears of the opposition disagree representatives of parliamentary majority, who believe that the introduction of the flat tax will save employers from keeping the books and complex calculations. Parliamentary majority leader, Peter Tsiskarishvili called the new tax rules a significant step forward that will facilitate the activities of both enterprises and individuals.
